Norwich City youngster Josh Martin will team up with Russell Martin’s MK Dons on a one-season loan.

The 19-year-old is heading to Ligue 1 for the new campaign under the leadership of the former City captain, and is the latest member of the Canaries setup to join MK after the previous loans of Carlton Morris and Louis Thompson.

Martin made 12 appearances under Daniel Farke last season, but dropped the first team photo in the second half of the title-winning campaign.

Farke gave the much-loved teenager a Premier League debut in the club’s last high-flying game, but a move to League One is seen as the next step in his career.

“I’m really happy to be here,” Martin said on the official MK Dons website. “It’s a big club and it’s close to home for me so I can’t wait to get started.

“I have heard a lot about Russell Martin since my time in Norwich and when I heard that he and MK Dons were interested I came to visit him. The style of play here is something I’m used to and suits me very well, and the stadium is amazing.

“I hope I can learn a lot during my stay here. I’ll be looking to bring goals and assists and a lot of creativity in the final third, but most of all help the team win games and be in the best possible position at the end of the season.

His namesake, and former City mainstay, has no doubt that MK has signed a huge talent.

“It’s a real blow for the club,” said the Dons boss. “Last season he played for the team that won the championship and he was wanted by a number of teams this summer from League One and the division above.

“He’s shown a real desire to be here because of the way we play – he thinks it will really suit him and I agree. He has fantastic abilities and will add real athleticism to our squad, as well as the versatility to play in a number of different positions.

“If you look at the teams that have been successful in this league, they often have players of Josh’s caliber, from the upper divisions, on loan. We all agree that he will be a real asset to our team next season and we can’t wait to see what he can do with an MK Dons jersey.

The teenager is the latest member of the club’s promising developmental generation to be loaned out for the coming season. Member midfielder Reece McAlear recently joined Scottish Championship club Inverness.

The likes of Danel Sinani and Sam mccallum Could also be ready for new loans, McCallum attracting the interest of a multitude of league teams after his eye-catching stint at Coventry City last season.
