A mother won £ 1million on a lottery ticket after her partner joked he was not ‘gullible enough’ to gamble.

Holly Saul won the EuroMillions UK Millionaire Maker Prize Draw on October 1 after her stepfather was reminded on WhatsApp to purchase a ticket.

The 29-year-old from Cambridge broke down in tears of joy when she learned how much she had won.

It came after her partner Ben Lowther, 38, said “I’m not gullible enough to play the lottery” in response to the WhatsApp message.

Ms Saul remained optimistic and purchased a number of tickets on the National Lottery app.

The mother of two said: ‘We were both so shocked that I decided the only sane option was to pour myself a G&T and Ben a Guinness and then we sat in the garden for an hour watching. in the void, looking at each other and laughing like children, then staring at them again before bursting into laughter again.

“It was the most surreal and the most wonderful moment.

“I play the national lottery from time to time, and I am very happy that I chose to do so on this occasion, the winning of £ 1million is going to make a huge difference for our whole family, and what is even better, I will forever tease Ben about his cheeky comment.

Mr. Lowther, his partner for eight years, has since mocked his comment, wearing a t-shirt with a screenshot of WhatsApp messages with “things idiots say” on the back.

When asked what they plan to do with the money, the couple said they wanted to help their parents retire “sooner”.

Much to our daughter’s disgust, we won’t trade in the Ford Focus

Ms Saul added, “Despite the craziness of the past few days, we remain true to ourselves and to the people that we are.

“Much to our daughter’s dismay, we won’t be trading in the Ford Focus and I have no plans to stop working although I might just cut back on my hours a bit.

“Sadly, Ben has lost his job twice, once because of the pandemic and once because of a layoff. Ben used to be in the business of making his own video games, but we are now in a position for him to develop his latest game, Aluna Rift full time.

“Looking back, it’s a bit strange. Over the past six months, we’ve looked at homes way beyond our means, but for some reason we figured it was a matter of when not if.

“Now here we are, because I was ready to be the gullible, we have so many wonderful options coming and we will enjoy them until the last.”
