Hibs Covid violation allegations come from ‘Glasgow blue half’, says Ben Kensell

HIBS chief executive Ben Kensell insists allegations of the Easter Road club’s alleged coronavirus rule violations originate from the ‘Glasgow blue half’.

Earlier this week, a whistleblower contacted the Daily Record to claim that some Hibs players had broken certain Covid protocols while staying at the Kingsmill Hotel in Inverness on Friday night before their match with Ross County the following day.

The source, described as a Glasgow businessman, alleged members of Jack Ross’ team did not wear masks when inside certain areas of the premises where they should have been .

The report came just two days after Hibs’ clash with the county was postponed over a coronavirus outbreak among the team’s first team.

Since then, the rescheduled match has also been called off, along with this weekend’s match with Livingston, with other cases confirmed within the playing squad.

But Hibees chief Kensell is confident all the rules were followed by Hibs staff – as he countered the allegations by saying the source was only looking to cause trouble.

“First of all, I would look at the source of the information and it unsurprisingly comes from the blue side of Glasgow, which is a point of speculation in itself.

“I am confident in our processes and after investigating complaints, I trust the staff and players to do what is necessary, to mitigate the spread of Covid. They are aware of their responsibilities.

“What I don’t want to do is focus on a comment from someone unrelated and trying to create problems. We are talking about a growing problem that affects the whole country.

“We have one person who just wants to make the headlines. I find this disappointing at best.

Elaborating on the evidence he had that the information came from the ‘Glasgow blue side’, he continued: ‘I am disappointed that either the things people are saying are true or disappointed that our players did not keep their masks. . That’s what I mean by disappointed.

“At the end of the day what I’m trying to deal with here is a real situation that affects everyone – it has decimated our team. I am only interested in the well-being of our players, our staff and our fans.

“I’m not interested in answering questions that are just tabloid speculation or anything of that nature. There are much bigger challenges here at Hibs than what an individual says in a hotel.
