Southampton to see more police before bonfire night
Residents of the city of Southampton can expect to see an increased police presence on the night of Friday 5 November.
This follows a spate of Halloween crimes that shocked residents of the Millbrook and Maybush neighborhoods.
Gangs of young people smashed windows, damaged property and overturned cars in what has been described as a night of chaos.
As a result, Southampton District Commander Superintendent Simon Dodds has now issued a statement ahead of bonfire night and the weekend.
He said: âWe want to reassure the community that we have increased and dedicated patrols in west Southampton this bonfire night ahead.
âWe know the community was shocked by what they saw on Halloween after two groups of young people damaged a number of cars, committed thefts and became involved in anti-social behavior.
âWe are committed to identifying those responsible and we are doing everything we can to fight this type of youth crime in the region alongside the community safety team, youth services and high schools.
âBefore bonfire night, our message is also for parents.
âDo you know where your children will be, what they are doing and who they are with?
“The Southampton West Neighborhood Team and additional officers will be patrolling the area on Friday, so we will do everything possible to be visible and able to respond.”
