ITV Emmerdale stars Manpreet and Jai share a forgotten Coronation Street connection

Emmerdale fans know them as Manpreet and Jai Sharma in the Dales, but actors Rebecca Sarker and Chris Bisson actually share a Coronation Street connection.

Chris joined Emmerdale in 2009 as a then factory worker with the new Sharma family, while Rebecca took on the role of Manpreet in 2018.

Jai has had his fair share of trials and tribulations on the ITV soap opera, including battling a cocaine addiction and getting into disastrous relationships.

This week, Emmerdale fans saw Jai being offered an ultimatum by business partner Kim Tate. She will let him buy ex-girlfriend Laurel Thomas’ house if he sells her his shares in The Hop.

It comes after the businessman was responsible for Laurel not being able to get a mortgage after taking out a loan in his name without knowing how to pay the fine imposed on The Hop following of survival day horror.

Meanwhile, Manpreet nearly lost her life at the hands of her sister Meena after the serial killer kidnapped and held her hostage for weeks, claiming she went to see her daughter in Ibiza.




She now faces the fallout alongside many other victims of Meena after she was eventually arrested and charged with a series of offences.

And while the characters spent time as Emmerdale stepmother and stepson, they actually shared a different family relationship on the cobbles.

Chris, from Wythenshawe, played Vikram Desai in Corrie from 1999 to 2002. Vikrm was Dev Alahan’s cousin and ran the corner shop before it became Dev’s. He was the co-founder of Street Cars alongside Steve McDonald.

Rebecca was already in Weatherfield playing Nita Desai, Vikram’s sister and her boss at the Corner Shop, before Chris arrived, who was Vikram’s sister and her boss at the Corner Shop.

Nita left the family business to join the Freshco supermarket. and in 2000 she left the streets for Inverness to run her own shop while Vickram made a one-way trip to Mumbai after being involved in drug trafficking to clear her gambling debts before emptying the Street Cars tax account to leave in 2002.

Prior to his starring roles on the soap, Chris played JJ for 13 episodes on Children’s Ward beginning in 1990, before appearing on Cops and Where the Heart Is.

He’s also appeared in Prime Suspect and Holby City, but the 46-year-old may also be remembered for his role as Kash Karib in Shameless.

While for Rebecca, Corrie was her first television role, which saw her make appearances on Doctors, Holby City, Casualty and even the BBC soap opera. EastEnders, representing Dr. Newton.
