Colorado’s Old Elk Distillery is releasing two new expressions from Master Distiller Greg Metze’s Master’s Blend Series, Old Elk Four Grain and Old Elk Double Wheat.
Old Elk’s Master’s Blend series, Metze said in a prepared statement, is creating new tasting experiences for whiskey by “marrying traditional favourites, award-winning bourbons and whiskeys with a bold sense of adventure. .. we have created two exquisite and unique whiskeys which I am personally very happy to share with the world.
Metze has been working on some of the world’s most coveted spirits for over four decades.

“We are very proud of what Greg has accomplished with these two new releases,” said Luis Gonzalez, CEO of Old Elk. “At Old Elk, we value innovation, quality, craftsmanship and integrity above anything else, and Greg really put those values into these liquids.”
Old Elk Double Wheat Straight Whiskey is a combination of two of the Old Elk wheat whiskeys: Old Elk Straight Wheat Whiskey and Old Elk Wheated Bourbon Straight Bourbon Whiskey.
The blend comes in at a higher proof (107.1), and what the distiller notes is a brighter profile whiskey with crisp tasting notes and a strong presence of fruit. Old Elk’s Double Wheat is aged 6-8 years with a dough of 71.5% wheat, 25% corn and 3.5% barley. Its exact ABV is 53.55%.
Old Elk Four Grain Straight Bourbon Whiskey is a blend of all four grains including corn, wheat, barley and rye. The resulting whiskey is smooth with hints of almond, vanilla, maple and spice creating a sweet and spicy profile balanced at a higher proof of 105.9. It is aged 6 to 7 years with a dough of 51% corn, 22.5% wheat, 19% barley and 7.5% rye. Its exact ABV is 52.95%.
“My goal was to always create whiskeys that bring generations together around a single bottle. It is humbling to see my four decades of industry experience blended into the Master’s Blend series,” said Metze. “With the Master’s Blend series, I’m leveraging my expertise to create innovative new whiskeys for the true aficionado – the one looking for something to discover.”
The Old Elk’s Master’s Blend series is available in a limited domestic release at select retailers in the United States with a suggested retail price of $99.99 per 750ml bottle.
