Environmental activists claim to have deflated the tires of nearly 2,000 SUVs in the past four weeks.

The Tire Extinguishers said their supporters had taken action in cities across Britain to try to “make it impossible” to own vehicles in urban areas.

He describes SUVs as “a climate catastrophe”, “dangerous” and “useless”.

SUVs feature elements of standard cars, but are larger and have off-road capabilities such as high ground clearance.

Gasoline and diesel models are generally less fuel efficient than cars.

The Tire Extinguishers describes itself as “leaderless” and encourages people to take action by reading the instructions on how to deflate tires on its website.

People can also print flyers to leave on the windshields of affected vehicles to let drivers know what happened.

Activists are urged to avoid SUVs “clearly used” by disabled people or shopkeepers.

The group, which first took action on March 7, said in a statement: “So far tire fire extinguishers have disarmed nearly 2,000 SUVs in the UK, Brighton, London, Manchester , Birmingham, Sheffield, Bristol and Edinburgh, in repeated actions. .

“Plans are underway to launch the tire extinguisher brochure in four more languages as interest grows internationally.”

Earlier this week Sussex Police released CCTV footage showing two people they want to find in connection with the tire deflation in Brighton.

Marion Walker, spokesperson for the Tire Extinguishers, said: ‘Unless a bobby is posted beside every SUV in the country 24 hours a day, we don’t expect anyone to be apprehended.

“Better to break the law than to allow these deadly vehicles to continue to be used on our streets.”
