James Maxwell has confirmed his departure from Rangers.

The young left-back spent last season on loan at Queen of the South and impressed.

He then spent this term at Ayr United but was always going to struggle to break into the Gers first team.

Maxwell, 20, is wanted by Partick Thistle and Hamilton Accies and could still find a club this summer.

But he admits he’s ready to move on and is excited about the prospect of a new challenge.

Taking to social media, Maxwell wrote: “Thank you @RangersFC for everything, I’ve met lifelong friends and had so many great experiences.

“Excited to see what happens next,” with a love heart emoji.

Maxwell has played 37 times for the Honest Men this season and has nearly 70 appearances to his name in just two campaigns.

He scored six goals for Ayr and five for Queen’s.

Under Steven Gerrard, the youngster trained with the Light Blues first team and traveled with them more than once in pre-season.
